Yab Yum for Connection and Love
Pam Babbitt, Tantra Coach

The term may sound strange, but once you've tried it, I bet you will remember it - often. Yab yum refers to a basic tantric sex position. It also represents the union of opposites, like the masculine and feminine forces of yin and yang. While this position is traditionally tantric, I encourage you to consider it, regardless of your views on tantric sex. Call it "foreplay."

In the yab yum position, one partner, usually the male, sits with his legs crossed as his partner straddles in his lap. The lovers wrap their legs around each other and place a hand on each other's  heart chakra, with the other on their partner's back.

You may be fully dressed, in your sarongs, or unclothed. It is essential that both partners be comfortable, so please modify as needed - possibly with legs outstretched or a cushion supporting you.

You will see that yab yum is a great position to start that slow, sweet energy connection with your lover. -

You are easily able to  eye gaze.

Yab yum supports partner breathing.

Your energy centers, or chakras, are aligned.

Bodies are in proximity, and genitals are really in proximity

Be fully present, relaxed, and allow your (energy) bodies to speak to each other. With partner longevity, your chakras may even develop their own "language" to communicate with each other.  Breathe deeply and surrender to the flow.

From this position, you may want to gradually proceed toward intercourse.  Move your bodies together as closely as possible, and if the male partner has an erection, it may put pressure on the woman's clitoris. With your arms around each other's back, slowly rock back and forth, moving just a few inches while you continue to eye gaze. Very arousing!

Rather than doing the usual thrusting with penetration, this is a great time to remain totally still and focus on the subtle sensations in your genitals.  Synchronize your breathing, add some PC squeezes, and notice the erotic energy increasing.

Maintain eye contact when you can, keep breathing, and enjoy the sweet merging of energies.

From the Editor

I'm finding myself in that uncomfortable place again - the one where  acknowledging and honoring you, wherever you are  on the gender continuum,  feels impeded as I write about tantric sex - a primarily heterosexual tradition.

SexCoaching.com honors all genderS and relationship paths, and I trust that our content balance will support that as we continue to grow.

If you are a coach, counselor, or therapist with a genderS  inclusive practice, please add your bio to our Directory of Sex and Relationship Professionals.

Namasté,

Pam Babbitt, Editor-Sex Coach

You may currently be  practicing some tantric sex techniques and positions without knowing it.   Bodies naturally gravitate toward what feels good.

Have fun as you build on the sex techniques that you are currently enjoying.
