Coaching or Therapy?
|
|
|
Dear Reader,
These
decisions aren't always easy -
1)
|
maybe you've had a
bad experience in the past and don't want a repeat
|
2)
|
or money is tight and
you sure don't want to waste any
|
3)
|
or your partner isn't
keen on this idea anyway and a poor choice could be
the last straw
|
Take whatever time you need, consider
the type of professional you would be comfortable with, and be pro-active.
Assume the role of an interviewer and
contact several professionals. Have your list of
questions ready and ask away. The answers given will
help with your decision, and consider also the attitude and
energy of the professional. A highly educated and
experienced professional may not be the best choice if they
just don't resonate with you.

Coaching is not therapy or consulting.
A consultant provides you with answers.
A coach helps you access your own wisdom and draw out
the answers that lie within you.
A therapist works from a medical model and often assumes a dominant
role, like a teacher.

A coach is an equal partner who works with you to
craft your life.
A coach is like the best friend you have ever had:
one who is not afraid
to ask you the hard questions, who isn't afraid to tell you the truth,
who helps you take the action you know you need to take.
Coaching is done by phone or Skype, by email, in person, and/or in groups (live
or phone).
